Dream Update: Week 24

As one of my resolutions on my 26th birthday, I decided to record every dream I have for the next year. I blearily type notes into my phone each morning and pretty much just correct typos before posting here. My rules: I won't post something that would embarrass someone else (things I find embarrassing are another story). I only record dreams I recall upon waking up in the morning (no 3a.m. bathroom break or post-nap recordings).

Without further ado, here's week 24:

June 25:
I was at DGT, my old church, and my college friend Kim was there. We talked with two of the pastor's sons, Jason and Jonathan, and their families. They were renting out rooms in the church as apartments, but they were super expensive and had these crazy lease terms. Crystal (a girl a few years older than me who used to attend that church - I barely knew her) had just signed a lease anyway. She left to go home and pack her things. Then the pastor wanted to read the funny parts of the lease. One of the stipulations included having juice and weed available at all times. The pastor got upset that the previous lease holders had left and demanded to know why I didn't have their numbers. I pointed out I just met them today. He asked if traffic was heavy--if they just left, maybe we could catch them! I looked outside and it was not. I told him so and everyone laughed at me. I'm not sure why. This feels very true to my childhood somehow...

I was at a dock by a lake trying to use a LifeStraw to drink. It was attached to a water bottle though, and every time I dipped my water bottle in the lake to fill it up, it either contained a giant spider (like the size of my hand) or an octopus (the size of a gumball) so I had to dump it back. As I struggled with this, the lake became more and more wavy as the wind picked up. I scrambled back as far as I could get away from the lake, ending up against this wall around the shore. Our cat Kahlua showed up with me, so I grabbed her and placed her on a high shelf so the waves wouldn't carry her away. Kyra, Tyler, Zack, Nicole and Tawnya were there as well.

June 26:
I was at this school at night hanging with the all the bad kids. We were playing this mega-serious game of hide-and-go-seek, but if you were found, you would be beat up. Me and this guy hid under a fallen chain link fence with tarp over it together.

Once the seekers had passed us by, we met up with a girl who was in our gang. She and I went inside to use bathroom, finding one with door so skinny we had to turn sideways to get inside. Rather than risk being crushed by the walls as we attempted this, we went looking for a better bathroom. As we were walking through halls, I realized this was a school for rich, smart kids and that the bad kids I hung with were the rebels who weren't accepted into the school or couldn't afford it. The kids who did go there had magazine covers on their lockers...magazines that they themselves had been featured on for their various skills and accomplishments. The girl I was with felt inadequate but would never admit it.

Then I dreamed that I was talking with Charlie and he used the word concurrently (I can totally see my three-year-old nephew doing this in real life. In fact, he probably already has). I asked if he knew what it meant and he tried to define it but was a bit off. Still, not bad.

Finally, I was in the living room at my childhood house and had a portable stove with me. For whatever reason, I cooking yogurt. I had Charlie with me still and was teaching him about hot stoves and such, but when the others saw me with him, they freaked out and pulled him away getting mad at me for being so dumb with a child.

June 27:
Something about trying to park in lower lot at DGT but not being able to.

Then I dreamed about being in a talent show with two others. Our act involved singing, roller skates and reading out of an overly large book.

June 28:
Dreamed about The Giver, though I don't recall the details.

Dreamed about being on Alias (I was somehow both Sydney with Vaughn). We unwrapped a truck (it had been packed under tarps and plastic for storage in this big warehouse) and hijacked it away from bad guys. We drove it up these twisty scary mountain passes to a small village where they believed in creatures like Big Foot and Yeti to such a degree that they were practically regarded as deities.

I dreamed that an old man had a heart attack. Then I was at a DGT potluck, and the pastor made fun of everyone's food except what his sons had brought.

June 29:
Jenna, Channing, and I were going to this club for a Christmas party. We were desperately trying to build light up costumes so we would be cool enough to be let inside. Jenna had a small string of lights that she'd wrapped around a Harry Potter wand. None of us thought that would quite cut it, so we raided my brother Tyler's room and found footie pajamas or a Santa and a reindeer costume, but they also weren't good enough. Then we found a battery operated candle, but it didn't work.

I dreamed that Matt and Paul drove Paul's car all crazy onto their parent's lawn and ripped it up. They were laughing hysterically the whole time.

June 30:
I dreamed I was playing Dungeons and Dragons with Adam, Zack, Paul and Matt. My character got pulverized by the bad guys and was on the brink of death. The party tried saving me but everything they did didn't work, which was frustrating. At this point I stepped into my character's shoes and was in the broken down mansion that is our current game setting in real life, and the twins were being creepy, tormenting me and everyone else. Somehow I survived in the end, but I think I was the only one.

I dreamed about not eating gluten and telling someone from work about it. We had to check to see if marshmallows contain gluten for some reason. My coworkers got into a heated debate about whether all soup had gluten because of the factories it's made in. The consensus was yes.

July 1:
Dreamed I was playing the pizza game with Zack (which I'm pretty sure was an actual game I played as a child where you have to collect various pizza ingredients and there's a spinner and you can get one piece and sometimes two of cheese and pepperonis and sauce and what have you...but then I can't really remember the game, so maybe it is just a dream...)

It was Christmas then and my sister Nicole gave her husband Matt a T-shirt with a man's face outlined completely in rhinestones with one mega-glittery eyebrow. Apparently it was for the movie Beauty and the Beast. He claimed to love it.

My sister Tawnya and I went to a deep-bayou-feeling bar in the middle of the woods where they were playing hearts. She joined their game, but I didn't. Instead, I sat at the bar and talked to a girl about boys and how much it sucks having to shave your legs.

Charlie got red paint on his hands, so I helped him wash them. We somehow managed to keep his white shirt and white and blue striped shorts clean. So miracles do happen.

Dream Update: Week 23

As one of my resolutions on my 26th birthday, I decided to record every dream I have for the next year. I blearily type notes into my phone each morning and pretty much just correct typos before posting here. My rules: I won't post something that would embarrass someone else (things I find embarrassing are another story). I only record dreams I recall upon waking up in the morning (no 3a.m. bathroom break or post-nap recordings).

Without further ado, here's week 23:

June 18:
I had surgery and was in the hospital recovering. My mom was there helping to take care of me. I had a stuffy nose and she helped me blow it, like when I was a kid.

Tyler built most of a dining room table for us and brought it to show us his progress. It had fold down breadboard ends and an additional fold out extension. One side still needed its end attached, and the whole thing needed stain. He asked if we wanted a lint trap in it and we said yes, of course. Because who doesn't need a lint trap in their table?

Jamie (one of my brother's childhood friends) showed up unexpectedly at the house to play - apparently he'd texted and called us all but no one had noticed.

A magic guy and his son claimed to have connection to God that made the nose in this carved face above a mirror/dresser thing spill milk and answer questions. To channel the divine, the dad stripped off his suspenders and jeans, but don't worry, he had striped pajama pants on for modesty. He rolled up the PJs and crouched in a chair like a frog for the ceremony. As we watched, Zack informed me that in the Bible, the milk came out so steadily from an invisible point in mid air that it put out fires.

Then I dreamed I was a set manager for Beyoncé on TV and the set was falling over. I had to fix it. Anything for queen B!

June 19:
I was working part-time at Knowledge Marketing again and we had princess costume people who would meet with kids. The Ariel one tried to talk to the girl she was meeting and give her a treat but the girl wasn't listening. Ariel put the treat on the ground by the girl and moved on. The girl's mom flipped out on Ariel. I got mad at the mom, confronting her and saying that Ariel hadn't done anything wrong. "You want something to complain about?" I asked. Then I  picked up the girl's treat and licked it top to bottom before handing it back to the mom.

I dreamed I was getting married in this giant auditorium after a college graduation was held there. The graduation went late so the wedding was pushed back as well. The bridesmaids all wore the yellow prom dress I wore in high school.

June 20:
Some teenagers were playing outside on a frozen pond. This super big/tall guy fell through the ice. A short teen girl just laughed.

Alice and Caleb (characters from the book I wrote) took a sex ed class together. Caleb had a lot of questions, but it was sexy that he was confident enough to just ask instead of sitting in uncomfortable silence like the rest of the class.

I dreamed I found a section of the Bible titled something like "Moving When You Have No Children" and I was so happy to find something so fitting for us (at this point we were just weeks away from moving into our first house!). But then I saw it was about moving when you have no home for your adult children. That was less applicable in several ways.

June 21:
I was chronically late for a Tuesday/Thurs class at UNW. It was a dance class, but I never knew what to wear so I could never get ready because of that. It was horrible. Kayla (a high school friend a year or two below me) was living in a tent on campus to save money on housing. She tried to sell me a water purifier as a cure-all.

Zack, Ryan, Tucker and I (along with a few nondescript "others") were trying to play Dutch Blitz, but everywhere we went was either closed or we couldn't go because of UNW's co-ed visitation hours policy.

June 22:
I went to visit Kate at Knowledge Marketing. She was adamant that I tell her whether I'd had any dairy recently because her pregnancy had made her allergic to dairy.

I took a walk and talk with Alyssa. She talked boys and family and good stuff. We talked about her brother Karl's engagement and if her boyfriend would be proposing any time soon.

June 23:
I dreamed I was a camp counselor for a group of Lost Boys.  They built a shelter outside. One of them dug around the bottom of the mucky river and found two (mismatched) shoes, so we used the laces to lash the logs of the shelter together. The youngest in the group just followed every one around.

Back at the counselor's cabin, I was trying to make my bed but the sheets wouldn't fit right. Then I had a hoard of pillows and small stuffed animals to contend with as well.

I dreamed I played Dungeons and Dragons with two people, and then Tinsley (my cousin's young daughter) came over and was her same size as now but with very advanced speech. She asked how to play, so I explained the game to her while I DMed for the others. The adventure was something about tricking the queen.

June 24:
Anna had built an orphanage in Mexico but it burned down. She was undeterred and working on rebuilding. I went to visit and she told me she want me to be her social media person. I pointed out how little I use social media but again, she was undeterred. I pointed out that I don't speak Spanish and she assigned two of the kids to be my translators. At least she was persistent!

Dream Update: Week 22

As one of my resolutions on my 26th birthday, I decided to record every dream I have for the next year. I blearily type notes into my phone each morning and pretty much just correct typos before posting here. My rules: I won't post something that would embarrass someone else (things I find embarrassing are another story). I only record dreams I recall upon waking up in the morning (no 3a.m. bathroom break or post-nap recordings).

Without further ado, here's week 22:

June 11:

This random woman called my cell phone saying she registered for piano lessons and couldn't confirm them. She talked about a mile a minute while I tried to figure out why she was calling me. I was sitting in bed with Zack and he overheard her on the other end of the phone. He told me, "It's a wrong number. Just hang up." But I said no because I heard her mention my friend (and piano player) Matt. I explained that I wasn't who she wanted and that Matt was a friend. I told her I'd look for his number in my phone then realized she might be stalking him, so told her I didn't have it (always looking out for my friends). But I wanted to help her too, so I gave her Lynette's photography studio number (where Matt works) so she could try there...because clearly sending a stalker to someone's workplace is perfectly acceptable.

Then there was this extremely fat guy at my old church who was being super belligerent toward me. At the end of the church service, I went to him and told him I forgave him. He was still a jerk. I almost forgot my purse at church, but Zack got it for me (thanks dear!). Then I was a kid again, singing in Praise Kids with a big fake smile on my face. The director had the choir doing these dance moves none of us had seen before so we just did our best to follow her lead - sort of like Zumba.

I was at a farmer's market then where some woman explained over and over that she and her husband were vegan. She said she loved pickled peppers. They had mounds of veggies on their table beside which a big spotted pig wearing a collar and leash ate cilantro rice. This little scene happened on repeat about six times.

June 12:
I was cleaning a super rich guy's fish pond on his front veranda (white marble stairs and porch.) I scooped all the fish out with a litter box scooper and laid them on the porch beside me, then planned to take the rocks out of the tank and put new rocks in. Partway through, I realized then that it was going to take too long and I needed the fish to be in a bucket so they wouldn't die. I ran off to find a bucket and when I returned, all the fish were gone. I looked all over for them with no luck. I went into the house and wandered a bit (it was huge). I never found the owners...or the fish.

Me and Dr. Who (10th, obviously) were with this little girl who was vitally important for some reason when we were attacked (not sure by whom). We ran to the basement, sliding down this metal tunnel to get there and then taking an elevator that rumbled and shook as the building collapsed around it. Eventually we made it to the basement but were trapped there (see building collapsing above). My friend Will turned up and asked if I had any of my books with me. I said I had part one of Deception, but when I pulled it out, it turned into a book about dragons.

Then I dreamed I was in prison where I was attacked by a guy who had toilet paper wound around his arms so I wouldn't be able to identify him by his tattoos. He cut my arm really deep and I ended up in the infirmary. Turns out, he was actually helping me escape because he had some deal with the doctor. Would have been nice to be in on that plan!

June 13:
I dreamed there was a shooting in Charlotte, NC. Zack's grandpa prayed for them.

Then I was on a field trip in high school at this big warehouse. This big brawny guy was showing us how to fire the various guns (just Nerf darts but more realistic gun types and styles). We all wore protective eye glasses. Mine were darker sunglasses with points in the upper corners.

We were going to the next leg of the trip and no one wanted me to ride with them. Alyssa was angry at me for some reason but I ended up in her van. I had a conversation with someone about how the schedule at school went because I couldn't remember what class was first and when and where it would be held.

June 14:
I dreamed I was a super hero fledgling who could sort of connect to animals, but mostly had force power. I hung out with a man who was a cross between Superman and Wolverine, and a woman like Storm meets Electra. Sometimes Zack was the man, and he talked about being able to talk to whales and how they liked him because he was tall and understood their plight of being larger.

Before I uncovered my powers fully, a bad guy was after me, and the two heroes were protecting me. We had planned for me to drive this truck past the bad guy as a distraction so the heroes could take him out, but the bad guy used his power to create a landslide under the truck and I crashed into the trees. The bad guy nearly killed the two heroes before coming for me. I blasted him away with my force power, and the man and woman were surprised I could defend myself.

June 15:
I dreamed I was a student at Northwestern again and living in the Arden dorms. I woke up late for class and got on the shuttle over to campus late. On my way out, I saw a bunch of people with big guns, just random people kind of roaming.

I got nervous but someone else on the bus assured me that they were just paintball guns. I called 911 anyway. The police officer I talked to also assured me that they'd already been out earlier and all guns were toys. Then they started shooting. The guns were not toys. A bunch of people died, including Kerri. Tucker wouldn't talk to me about it.

I got into a debate with Tim about gun control and Arizona vs Minnesota's laws at Kerri's visitation, which we held at Schlottman's house (naturally).

I dreamed I played groceries and farm animals with Paul and Ashley's daughter Felicity.

Then I was at this weird house with stone tile mosaic stuff everywhere. It was a family from my childhood church's house apparently. I went downstairs to ask where I could do homework and walked in on the brother and sister kissing. It was quite awkward. I did homework outside.

June 16:
I was in a big mansion with some friends and some foes. I realized that there were weeping angels everywhere (terrifying) and also an elephant.  I told everyone to look at them to freeze them as we all ran out of the house. Once we got outside, though, there were more angels. I looked at one of them but then I SAW one of them move (which is SO wrong). I realized they were only faking being frozen by our gazes so they could ambush us later. I tried to warn everyone but it was too late. A bunch of the people got ambushed by the tricky angels.

June 17:
I was venturing through the forest with a couple people, and we were trying to defeat a host of Darth Vaders. There were also AT-AT Walkers down a cliff below us.

Then I dreamed I was living in an apartment below a bar in college. The apartment was a disaster - mostly Jenna's cat's food and litter all over the floor.

This car pulled out from the parking lot really recklessly so I tried to memorize its license plate. Everyone else remembered a different number though. Lauren freaked out about loving freebies, and specifically the glasses cleaners. I went back inside while Jenna and this Indian girl left to find costumes (not sure what for). I argued with a lady about how to make costume armor and that tinfoil isn't the best, but instead you should use plaster and still have movable joints.

I had to cover the bar because Jenna, the usual bartender, had left. This guy came down and was trying to flirt with me. He brought someone else's expired library slip with him. I said I'd call the college library. He sat down behind the bar.

I dreamed Zack and I were sitting on edge of the bed chatting. He gave me a hug, but squeezed me so hard I couldn't breathe. I tried to tell him, but was barely able to get the words out and he didn't let go.

Dream Update: Week 21

As one of my resolutions on my 26th birthday, I decided to record every dream I have for the next year. I blearily type notes into my phone each morning and pretty much just correct typos before posting here. My rules: I won't post something that would embarrass someone else (things I find embarrassing are another story). I only record dreams I recall upon waking up in the morning (no 3a.m. bathroom break or post-nap recordings).

Without further ado, here's week 21:

June 4:

I was playing Dungeons and Dragons alone with just Zack DMing the game. I met two dragons who I had to make a deal with so they wouldn't kill me. They asked me to get some treasure for them that was in a crevice that was too small for them to enter.

I was then in an old, worn down old house with my parents. There were bad guys coming so we had to hide. I was running around but couldn't find a good spot and then the guys entered the room. I ducked behind a bicycle that I happened to be standing by at the moment. Since I had a helmet on I hoped they would think it was just the helmet resting by the bike.

June 5:
I was trying to play Dungeons and Dragons with Zack, Matt, Paul and Adam. One of Adam's friends (some Asian guy with thick rimmed glasses) was DMing the session for us. As we played I got to make my first attack--eldritch blasting a roper from far away. I then realized my character sheet wasn't in my book. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Meanwhile my friend Caleb was working on wiring in the house and the lights kept going off. As I searched through the papers for me sheet and the table got more and more discombobulated, my dice kept getting lost too. Eventually the new DM just said I missed both times which made me angry since I'd rolled a 19 for one of my attacks. After our game was over, I told Adam it was fun but weird to play with him as a player.

I was at Papa Tony's old house and Gus Gus (my sister's cat) came out to play. He fell in a hole into the cistern under the house and was treading water in it with no way out. Everyone else was resigned to him drowing but I was like, "No, he has claws!"  I found some blankets and went to the basment and opened the hole to lower one to him so he could use it like a ladder to climb out. Once I had the cistern opened, I didn't see him though. As I leaned over the hole looking, his paw reached out right by my face. I grabbed his arm and pulled him out.

I was in my high school English class with Anna and Liz. I hadn't done my homework, but the discussion turned theoretical so I jumped in to be sneaky. But then after sharing my opinion, Liz asked why I thought the characters in the story might not agree. And I was caught. So close.

June 6:
Dreamed that I went to work lunch with everyone from our department. We couldn't figure out who was supposed to ride with who and it was awkward.

Anna was going to a fancy event and had to get her dress approved ahead of time. Night of, she realized her pre-approved dress was hideous - sparkly mauve and covered in flowers. Me, my parents and her parents all worked feverishly and got it looking much better for her.

June 7:
In my high school's library with Emily, Matt D, and Anna. We were up in the secret loft in the back and were building something but I don't recall what now.

I was trying to get dressed and couldn't decide what to wear. I ended up in my old Coke T-shirt, jeans and a fleece jacket.

June 8:
Grandma was being completely impossible. She kept either doing things she shouldn't do or demanding that my mom do everything for her right then and there, including attaching a hitch to her car so she could haul stuff.

We were in this tiny cafe area in the basement of this building. The tables were covered in graffiti art. Then I was working there rather than just visiting. It was miserable and I hated it. My boss was totally demanding and difficult.

Then I dreamed I did a comedy routine and it went well. Part of it involved me doing a prologue to a movie with a paper bag puppet in the voice of Cookie Monster (that's some witty stuff right there). Then there was a guy who did this magic routine in which he claimed he could roll a dice to land on whatever number you said. The dice was in a clear ball which floated in a small tank of liquid. He would just spun the ball until he found your number. Next was a woman with a golden retriever who could smell numbers. Members of the audience listed a bunch of numbers and they set off into the woods to find them. Lower numbers were more challenging I guess (less to smell maybe?)

June 9:
Pearl was having me working on a project drafting a new form email for student workers to complete. We did a lot of back and forth about what students will/won't fill out. There was a highlighted section framed in red for their hobbies. I don't know why we had to collect that but we did.

I was all dressed up for this dance event in this tight black dress with a high collar neck and rouching along the sides. An old friend from elementary school danced with me, and Zack said that he was just trying to touch my butt. I said Zack was being ridiculous, but sure enough his hands started drifting. I pushed him away and refused to dance with him any more. I guess Zack was right!

I dreamed I dropped Zack at the airport and then got a phone call from an old boyfriend . We had this awkward conversation and neither of us wanted to be the first to hang up because that felt like defeat. At one point we were in silence for like two minutes straight. I said goodbye to Zack while still on the phone and made a point of kissing Zack and saying I love you with the phone still on.

June 10:
No recall! Wow that hasn't happened for a while!
